Shared Hosting
What is Shared Hosting?
Shared Hosting is the most affordable type of hosting.
It's the most basic kind of hosting sold by most web hosting companies allowing hundreds of clients to 'share' a managed server between them. Each customer is given an allocated amount of disk space and bandwidth. Clients cann't visit each other files and are restricted to their allotted area. As many clients are sharing the server, it's affordable for the hosting companies to bring the monthly cost right now.
In my experience and keeping in convention with it's basic services, you'll notice when running well-visited websites on the shared hosting packages, the performance and load times of pages can run particularly slowly, more so with database produced websites like Wordpress, ExpressionEngine and vBulletin. This is the limitation of shared hosting and is primary there to stop 'bad neighbours' hogging the server hardware and slowing down every other account hosted on the same server.
If you believe your website could grow to become a popular website in the future it's still OK to use a shared hosting plan. Just be sure to upgrade when performance does become an issue.
